Eagles’ Roy named ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week and
Windsor Spitfires’ Dale Mitchell named Boston Pizza CHL Player
of the Week

Toronto,
ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Olivier
Roy is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April
5. Roy posted two wins with a goals-against-average of 1.55 and
a save percentage of .946. Roy is now a three-time winner of the
award this season.
Roy and the Screaming
Eagles opened their second round playoff series on the road against
the Quebec Remparts Friday night with a marathon game extending
to four overtime periods. Roy made 30 saves in regulation time and
another 39 saves in overtime as second star of the 3-2 victory.
The game lasted 132 minutes and 57 seconds which marks the second
longest game in QMJHL history. Roy made 22 saves Sunday in game
two of the series to help the Screaming Eagles win 5-3 and remain
unbeaten in post-season play, now leading the Quebec Remparts 2-0
in their series.
Roy, a 17-year-old
from Amqui, Quebec, is in his second QMJHL season with the Screaming
Eagles. He finished the regular season with a goals-against-average
of 2.80 and a save percentage of .906 with two shutouts. Roy is
eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Three-time
winner Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen was nominated from the
WHL this week for posting a 2-0-0-0 record allowing just two goals
on 40 shots for a goals-against-average of 1.00 with a save percentage
of .950. 16-year-old rookie JP Anderson of the OHL’s Mississauga
St. Michael’s Majors was also considered for making 109 saves
in three games. His week was highlighted by a first star performance
Sunday afternoon with 35 saves in the 5-1 win over the Brampton
Battalion shown live on Rogers Sportsnet. Anderson leads all OHL
goaltenders with a playoff save percentage of .939.

this week The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward
Dale Mitchell of the Windsor Spitfires is the Boston Pizza CHL Player
of the Week for the week ending April 5. In three playoff games
Mitchell registered nine points including five goals and four assists
with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
Mitchell
led the charge for the Spits as they opened their second round playoff
series against the Plymouth Whalers Thursday night. He scored two
goals in game one and was named second star of the 6-3 contest that
ended in favour of the Whalers. The high powered Spitfires offence
rebounded in game two Saturday night on their way to an 8-2 victory.
Mitchell assisted on the first two goals and scored the game-winner
on the power play early in the second period. The offence continued
to roll on Sunday and Mitchell had his best game of the week with
a four-point night in the 8-1 win, giving the Spitfires a 2-1 advantage
in the series. He was named first star of the game scoring two goals
and two assists.
Mitchell,
a 19-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, recorded 68 points including
33 goals and 35 assists for the Spitfires in his fourth OHL season.
He played his first three seasons with the Oshawa Generals. Mitchell,
a third round selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2007 NHL
Entry Draft, is currently second in OHL playoff scoring with 16
points and leads the league with nine goals in seven games.
Christopher
DiDomenico of the Drummondville Voltigeurs had a five-point game
Friday as first star in a 7-1 win over the Montreal Juniors. He
finished the week with one goal and six assists for seven points
to receive consideration for the award. Jonathon Blum of the WHL’s
Vancouver Giants was nominated for scoring two goals and one assist
for three points in a pair of victories. His two goals Saturday
in a 4-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs earned him first star of the
game honours and helped his team grab a 2-0 series lead over the
Chiefs in second round playoff action.
